On December 5, 1933, Congress got its act together when it ratified the 21st Amendment to the US Constitution, repealing the 18th Amendment and bringing an end Prohibition in America. 13 long years of making booze in bathtubs and drinking in speakeasies came to an end. To celebrate 80 years of wetting your whistle without fear of being locked up by the law, The Village Voice held its inaugural Holiday Spirits tasting event at Studio Square in Long Island City.
Over 25 distilleries and wineries from New York City and beyond filled two floors at Studio Square with its fine spirits and specialty winter themed cocktails. A swinging 1920s feel filled the room thanks to a live jazz quartet.
Scorpion Mezcal’s Hot Smokin’ Chocolate. Cooked up in a pot right in front of you, it’s hot chocolate with an added punch of flavor that won’t make you grimace. You won’t mind standing out in the December cold with a mug of this.
White Pike Whiskey’s White Pike Mojito. A twist on the typically sweet rum drink. To call it a pleasant surprise would be an unbelievable understatement.
If you missed the event or are a little hazy on the details — because, well, you know — check out some photos below.
