Sara Bareilles is, without a doubt, one of the more talented musicians recording and performing today; the proof is heard through her skill behind a piano and powerful voice. Since breaking through with “Love Song” in 2007, her popularity has steadily grown, along with her unquestionably loyal fan base.
Let’s not forget she’s an A+ human being: she speaks out against social injustice (Bareilles performed during a LGBT fundraiser in New York last year); uses comedy and pokes fun at herself in music videos (she also appeared on an episode of Community last year); and she’s also a recent transplant to New York City, moving to the West Village last year. She also performed during Fresh 102.7’s incredibly successful Fresh in the Park last Summer. She was amazing, as per usual. <3 u bb.
All good things.
In addition to writing her own great music, Bareilles also has a knack for the cover song, putting her own spin and unique sound to already beloved hits. Here are 8 Amazing Songs Covered By Sara Bareilles that you will absolutely love.
Sara Bareilles loves Beyonce as much as we do. Her completely rearranged piano cover of “Single Ladies” is amazing and makes choosing between the two very difficult.
“F*ck You/Gonna Get Over You”
“This song is for you.” Sara, always the kidder. Her cover of Cee Lo‘s finger-flippin’ anthem doesn’t lose the soul provided by Cee Lo and flows perfectly into “Gonna Get Over You.”
“Little Lion Man”
The Mumford and Sons original lacks banjo but is just as fun for the crowd and maybe more so for Bareilles and everyone on stage.
“(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay”
Filmed and recorded as part of Between the Lines: Sara Bareilles Live at the Fillmore, Bareilles is accompanied by only Javier Dunn on guitar, which is all she really needs, to be honest.
“I’m On Fire”
Bareilles performed “I’m On Fire” as part of Springsteen‘s Hangin Out On E Street series, which featured other artists like The Avett Brothers, Pete Yorn, Tegan and Sara, The Gaslight Anthem, and the Bouncing Souls.
“There’s something very dark and brooding about the whole thing,” Bareilles says of “I’m On Fire.” “There’s this urgency to it, but to make it sort of delicate was kind of an interesting way to go about it for me.”
“In Your Eyes”
Bareilles released this cover of one of Peter Gabriel’s most well-known hits as the B-side to “Bottle It Up” from her major-label debut album, Little Voice.
A breathtaking performance of “Stoney End” — the title track from Barbra Streisand’s twelfth studio album — was performed during Laura Nyro’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“Come On Eileen”
Bareilles shared the spotlight for the cover of Dexys Midnight Runners’ “Come On Eileen”; one of the most memorable hits, and one-hit wonders, to come from the 1980s — with Sugarland, during their tour together in 2011.
