To paraphrase the Ringo Starr classic, it don’t always come easy, and that was the case with Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” Elton took his team — lyricist Bernie Taupin, guitarist Davey Johnstone, bassist Dee Murray, drummer Nigel Olsson and producer Gus Dudgeon — to Jamaica to record the follow-up to two consecutive #1 albums: 1972′s “Honky Chateau” and 1973′s “Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player.”
The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed a suit claiming that Elton John plagiarized the hit from “Natasha,” a song submitted to John’s publisher years before “Nikita” hit the charts.
A statement posted to the singer’s official site explained that John had called doctors in the midst of his tour through Europe, with the medical team discovering an inflamed appendix and a surrounding abscess.
Fans of Elton John who’ve been hoping for him to return to his early-’70s stripped-down format are about to get their wish. Earlier today (June 24), the legendary singer/pianist announced an official release date and track listing for his first solo album in seven years, The Diving Board. Out September 24, Elton says it’s “the album I’ve been waiting to make for decades.”
