Kesha Transitions with ‘Dirty Rock and Roll and Country’

"Until I can release my own music I will be reinventing some of my old songs and some of my favorite songs from my musical idols."

By Hayden Wright

For years, Kesha’s highest-profile project was her ongoing legal battle against producer Dr. Luke, a messy and protracted situation that limited her capacity to appear as a recording artist. In 2016, she’s stepped outside that narrow lane with a lauded Billboard Awards performance, intimate Vegas dates, and a host of appearances in music hubs like Nashville, TN. As Kesha gears up for an August tour, she says she plans to swerve from dance pop into “dirty rock & roll and country music,” genres that have been very kind to her comeback efforts.

Kesha will hit the road as Kesha and the Creepies, a group project that could successfully distance its frontwoman from her previous image. With a renewed focus on interpretation and musicianship, expect to experience Kesha as you’ve never seen her before.

“Until I can release my own music I will be reinventing some of my old songs and some of my favorite songs from my musical idols,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve hand-picked songs from artists that have helped shape who I am and the music I make today.”

The size of her chosen venues will also give fans an up-close-and-personal view of Kesha as she sees herself (and her music) today.

“I thrive from making and performing music, and much like a flower with no sun, my soul slowly dies when I don’t get to create and perform,” she wrote. “So, for a short ride and in mostly intimate venues, I will be performing a new creepy creation. It’s been too long.”

The day has come that I, now, present to you, Kesha and The Creepies. This project and upcoming tour comes from my deep eternal love of dirty rock & roll and country music. I thrive from making and performing music, and much like a flower with no sun, my soul slowly dies when I don't get to create and perform. So, for a short ride and in mostly small intimate venues, I will be performing a new creepy creation. It's been too long. Until I can release my own music I will be reinventing some of my old songs and some of my favorite songs from my musical idols. I've hand picked songs from artists that have helped shape who I am and the music I make today. I have missed you, all of you, so if you would like to boogie, come join us.
