9 Quick Questions with The Strumbellas

The annual 4Knots Music Festival came to the South Street Seaport this past Saturday, July 9th. Fresh 102.7’s Christine Richie was out in the heat all day and managed to secure some time with one of her new favorite bands, The Strumbellas, the festival’s co-headliners of the day.

While Christine had Simon Ward and Jon Hembrey contribute to her latest #OnTheList feature, she also asked some rapid fire questions of the band members from Toronto.

Christine Richie: What was the last thing you bought or sold on Craigslist?

Jon Hembrey: It was a 1974 Martin D-35 Guitar. I was glad it worked out but think my days of selling and buying on Craigslist are over. It’s too stressful.

CR: First thing you do when you get home from tour?

JH: Laundry

CR: What do you love to do in NYC?

JH: Eat! And of course walk around and take in the sights.

CR: What’s your favorite app?

Simon Ward: Two Dots!

*Apparently the whole band has a bit of an addiction to this game, but Simon and Jon both agreed that Isabel was the best and maybe the most addicted. It’s a great way to kill time traveling.

CR: What must you have on the tour bus?

JH: A Tour Bus! (They’re still doing the van thing.) Also, neck pillows.

CR: Latest celebrity encounter?

SW: Just last night we met Marcus Mumford! We played a show in London where he curated the bands so chose us to play and came and talked to us for awhile.

JH: Tom Hanks! We played the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and we met Tom! We’re all fans of his and I had to get a picture to send to my Mom!

CR: Has Bryan Adams heard or commented on your “Summer of ’69” cover?

SW: We think he’s heard it for sure but haven’t heard what he thought of it yet.

JH: If I see him, I’m definitely asking him about it!

CR: What has changed since “Spirits” become a hit?

SW: We got a lot busier and we’re just traveling and playing non-stop.

CR: What has to happen to make you feel like you’ve made it?

SW: Win a Grammy. I’ve been dreaming about that since he was a kid.

CR: Did you used to perform your Grammy acceptance speech in the mirror as a kid?

SW: Of course. I still do!
