This Week On FM Magazine: The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation

Deb Gordon’s guest was Terence Hales, Board Member of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, which works to combat Pulmonary Fibrosis, a rare and usually fatal lung disease that affects around 200,000 Americans annually.

Mr. Hales discussed the latest research and developments in the fight against this little-know disease, which kills the same number of people as breast cancer.

“I am happy to announce…there were 2 drugs that were approved roughly 2 years ago… there has been a lot of research going on and a lot of progress in the field, “ said Hales. “We still have a lot of work to do, the drugs don’t work for everyone…we’re learning more as time goes by.”

Spotlighted the Foundation’s annual NYC Run-Walk-Hike for Pulmonary Fibrosis, which will kick off on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Central Park.

Now in its 9th year, the Run-Walk-Hike is the organization’s signature fundraising event and has been an instrumental source of funds for research having raised over $400,000 thus far.

“It’s a very laid back format – we don’t expect everyone to do the run-walk, “said Hales. “We have announcements, a raffle, a silent auction, and it’s just a wonderful day for people to come out and help increase awareness…the CEO Patti Toumey will speak, we’re looking forward to a great day in Central Park.”

The community is encouraged to bring family and friends to join the event, to not only honor those who have succumbed to the disease, but also celebrate those who are now living longer with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

“We’ll have great music playing in the background by one of our favorite sponsors, Fresh 102.7, “said Hales. “Registration is still open and participants can register the day of as well.”
