Snoop Dogg Says He’s Done Watching Movies & TV About Slavery

By Amanda Wicks

Snoop Doog has no qualms about sharing his opinion. He’s used Instagram in the past to speak about all manner of things, including calling out Arnold Schwarzenegger for what he felt were twisted politics. On Memorial Day (May 30), Snoop posted a video to the social media app lambasting the fact that Hollywood won’t stop making slavery narratives.

Captioning the video with the word “Message,” Snoop proceeded to go off on the racist film and television practices that continue to concentrate on slavery instead of giving black audiences more up-to-date stories that reflect their successes (via XXL).

Sitting on his couch, Snoop says in a straightforward voice, “No disrespect but I can’t watch no more motherf—–’ black movies where n—– getting dogged out. 12 Years a SlaveRootsUnderground, I can’t watch none of that s—. I’m sick of this s—. How the f— they gonna put Roots on on Memorial Day? They gon’ just keep beating that s— into our heads of how they did us, huh? I don’t understand America.”

Instead, he issues a call to arms to those behind the scenes and those who continue to watch. “When y’all gonna make a motherf—–’ series about the success that black folks is having? The only success we have is Roots and 12 Years a Slave and s— like that, huh? F— y’all.”

He encourages audiences not to pay attention to those projects anymore until black audiences get different stories, and promises he won’t be tuning in anytime soon.
