Impact: Ariana Grande Turns Into a ‘Dangerous Woman’ with Third Album

By Amanda Wicks

If anyone has the vocal chops to inherit the R&B flavored pop that divas like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston made famous, it’s Ariana Grande. The Florida singer burst on the scene in 2013 with her debut studio album Yours Truly and hasn’t stopped wowing audiences since. That album set the path for what would become a series of hits, starting with her first single “My Way” featuring rapper Mac Miller.

Grande would go on to collect more accolades. In 2014, she won Favorite Breakout Artist at the People’s Choice Awards, and her music video “Problem” off her second album Purpose won Best Pop Video at the MTV Movie Awards.

Grande has released her three studio albums in only three years. It’s an impressive amount of work for such a young singer. Her newest, Dangerous Woman, features a sexier side of Grande. She’s done some maturing since her earlier work, and the album’s first single, “Dangerous Woman,” showcases a more seductive persona that moves beyond the sweet, punchier fare that helped establish her name. With the release of that single, Grande passed yet another milestone. She became the first female vocalist to debut each of her album’s lead singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Now 22 years old, she has a long career ahead of her; she continues to grow with the trends, but also shape them to her own style. Her growth from her first hit “The Way” to “Dangerous Woman” shows impressive growth; expect to see that continue.

Dangerous Woman drops May 20.
