#OnTheList with Xtine: Cold War Kids’ ‘Album #6 Inspiration’ Playlist

#OnTheList with Xtine is a weekly feature from Fresh 102.7’s Christine Richie that will be highlighting all things music and more, from her favorite emerging artists, top female vocalists, and much, much more!

For the second time, #OnTheList will give me a break and feature a special guest: Cold War Kids!

Cold War Kids recently took the stage in our Adorama Live Theatre for a performance and interview with me. The band discussed their single “First”; coincidentally, their first #1 hit and also one of the last songs included on Hold My Home. A thought among musicians, including recent Up Close guest Zella Day, is that the final songs included on an album are a strong indication of the direction you take for the next. Nathan Willett expanded on that premise:

“It’s very true of the band’s sound since the beginning,” Willett says about “First.” “The process of it was very quick and that’s the weird trick of being in the studio; you want to do your best work, better than what you did before, but it’s not necessarily time that makes that best work happen, it’s that magic moment and you have to respect it.”

With that in mind, here are the songs Willett and company are listening to for inspiration while they work on their sixth studio album.

PJ Harvey “The Wheel”

Bob Dylan “Series Of Dreams”

The Kills “Satellite”

Marvin Gaye “Inner City Blues”

U2 “So Cruel”
