John Boehner Employs Taylor Swift GIFs to Criticize Obama’s College Policy
We are living in a post-Buzzfeed world where GIF listicles are the new method of relaying information. Well, that’s been the case in journalism for more than a minute, but it’s officially spread to Capitol Hill.
Someone must have enlightened John Boehner on the new form of journalism because his team is all about it now. In a recent story on the right-wing politician’s website, Boehner’s communication team decided to take a new approach to critiquing Obama’s methods: Taylor Swift GIFs.
Because the subject matter was Obama’s proposal for “free community college,” his team tried to inhabit the minds of college kids and expose its flaws—in their minds—through a series of Taylor Swift GIFs and lyrics. It’s rife with terrible puns like “60 billion dollars is a lot of money…you can’t just shake it off” and “there’s no blank space in the taxpayer’s checkbook.”
