Tove Lo Steps Out Of the Background and Into the Spotlight With Her New Single “Habits”
While you may not have heard of her yet, budding Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo has been involved in the music scene for a few years now, choosing to stay in background to focus on songwriting and has co-written songs for hit artists such as Icona Pop, Lea Michele and Cher Lloyd.
The choice to evolve from being a songwriter to an individual artist can be a difficult decision to make. Tove Lo recently made the brave transition from just putting her name in the songs’ credits to putting her name and face right next to the song’s title.
“When I got into the writing part of things I just, I just felt so at home in the studio and kind of loved being behind the scenes,” said Tove Lo.
Although it is a transition that quite a few of artists make, Tove Lo feels that she has a love-hate relationship with being in the spotlight.
“All of a sudden all of those eyes on you can be, I mean you love it and you hate it at the same time,” said Tove Lo. “It’s that kind of a thing where it’s like the adrenaline rush is a challenge it’s, you know, but also can be really scary.”
To breakthrough the scene as her own, Tove Lo released her latest single “Habits (Stay High)” off of her 2014 record “Truth Serum.” The song, as well as the record itself, is very emotional and close to her heart.
“The whole EP is kind of a very like confession of like a relationship,” said Tove Lo. “Its about the same, it’s a story from beginning to end pretty much about one relationship that went wrong and ‘Habits’ is I guess the part after, after we ended it and how I was coping with it.”
