Reboots and sequels have been flooding theaters in recent years, bringing action to the big screen for fans longing for suspense. Mark Wahlberg has long been a staple of the action genre and he’s at it again this Summer with the latest sequel to everyone’s favorite franchise, Transformers.
Wahlberg plays Cade Yeager, a single father and struggling inventor, for Age of Extinction, the fourth installment of the franchise. Michael Bay is directing again, meaning the film will be loaded with explosions and tons of action, most of which Wahlberg took part in during filming.
“Michael (Bay) just loves to have the actors in there… he feels like it makes a difference with the audience, that they can tell it’s you,” says Wahlberg about the film’s stunt work.. “I would do whatever he asked me to do, but anytime he was like, ‘I don’t want you doing this,” I had no problem sitting on the sidelines watching that young, strong man doing it for me.”
“Jumping off the semi going 30 miles per hour as Optimus is transforming and your getting thrown off into the side of the field,” he adds.
Now at 43 years old, Wahlberg admits he’s less inclined to participate in the stunt work than he would have been early in his career.
“Yeah, because I was an idiot… I have a number of reasons to live now,” says Wahlberg, who has four children with model wife Rhea Durham. “I’m not the crazy kid I used to be.”
Transformers: Age of Extinction was released into theaters on June 27 and has already earned $601,081,100 at the box office.
