We all know Ed Sheeran can croon with the best of them, but with his latest album, x (out June 23), the red-headed singer is showing he’s got a hip-hop side. On lead single, “Sing,” he teamed up with Pharrell and on the track “Don’t” he calls out a shady ex-lover over a ’90s hip-hop beat.

But last night on MTV, Sheeran showed he wasn’t afraid to try his hand at some of the more well known hip-hop tracks from DJ KhaledR. Kelly and Jay Z.

Of course, Sheeran is no stranger to covers, recently doing a spot-on take of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” but MTV couldn’t make it easy on the guy, so they asked him to cover these hip-hop songs in the style of country-western.
