Pharrell Williams: The Song Intro Remains the Same

For more than a decade, songs produced by Pharrell Williams (as well as by The Neptunes, the duo of Williams and Chad Hugo) have had one thing in common: they’re hits.

A Soundcloud user who goes by the moniker “mrdiscopop” has found another similarity in productions created by Williams: the intro. He’s assembled a track that strings out a bevy of Williams’ song introductions to highlight just how many times the tracks begin with a simple four-count before launching into the rest of the tune.

Among the tracks: “Drop it Like It’s Hot” (Snoop Dogg), “Blurred Lines” (Robin Thicke) and more, including the smash solo hit, “Happy.”

“Pharrell Williams is a brilliant songwriter — but he doesn’t put much effort into his song intros,” mrdiscopop writes on Soundcloud. “They all use the same trick to get into the song.”
