Ed Sheeran To Play New York City’s Ellis Island This Summer
By Radio.com Staff
Ed Sheeran started his career in 2011 playing tiny bars in London and by last year, he was already selling out Madison Square Garden. But this summer in New York City, he’ll manage to work his way from a small intimate club gig to an historical outdoor show, all in one day.
In an interview this morning (May 16) with Jim & Kim, Sheeran announced that June 13 will be Multiply Day in NYC. Sheeran will start off the day by playing a small intimate gig before playing a number of other venues, all increasing in capacity, eventually ending the day at Ellis Island.
“It’s an interesting concept thought up by the label,” Sheeran said of the idea.
He previously did a Multiple Day in England and Ireland where he started out played a show in his hometown for about 40 people before making his way to Dublin for a show that held 2,500 people.
The Ellis Island show will however mark the first time Sheeran has ever been to the gateway for millions of immigrants coming to the United States. “I’m sure one of my ancestors has been there though,” he told Fresh 102.7. “I know my great, great, great grandfather came over from Ireland because they all lived in Boston.”
Sheeran unfortunately doesn’t think his great, great, great ancestor had red hair.
As for the show itself, he promises to give fans a sneak peek of his upcoming album x, (out June 23), including his latest single, the Pharrell-produced “SING,” along with the hits his fans all know and love off his 2011 debut, +.
“I’ll try to make it as entertaining as I can,” he promised.
That’s all we ask of you Ed.

“A good tourist tip is actually see the things the tourists see. Id say if you’re a tourist coming to NY, be a tourist,” Says Ed. “Don’t be like me. And don’t walk slowly.”
The only way to see Sheeran play live in the memorable and historic setting is to win tickets from Radio.com and on-air at Fresh 102.7 FM during the 8am, Noon, 2pm, 4pm and 5pm hours.
