Mike Rosenberg (Passenger) Tells Us His Favorite Things About NYC
Mike Rosenberg is the English songwriter who has quickly become well known here, in the states, under the name Passenger for his song, “Let Her Go.” In an exclusive open questionnaire during Fresh 102.7’s ‘Up Close and Personal’ concert hosted by Christine Richie at 353 West NYC, he talked about what it’s like to come to New York from time-to-time.
One of the first fan questions was about his choice to continue busking in places like Washington Square Park, even though he doesn’t need the money… or the recognition.
His reason may surprise you though. He says he doesn’t need the money as much as he did in the beginning of his musical career so he goes out to play in parks while he is in New York simply because of the love people have for his music.
“That’s what I used to do, go busking and play in the street and that funded my career for five or six years because I didn’t have a record label or any funding but now, luckily, I’m not in a position where I have to, so I try to encourage people to spend that five or ten dollars on a homeless person or someone who needs it,” said Rosenberg.
“When “Let Her Go” started getting big I found myself playing less and less, I found myself doing more infuse, flying from place to place and playing ‘Let Her Go’ a million times. But what I really love to do is play, just play music for people who love to listen and busking is the best place to do that,” said Rosenberg.
As far as touristy things to do here in the city, the only real comment he had wasn’t about the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State building – it was about the food. And that’s one thing that no one can dispute. You can find food from every part of the world, all within a couple of square blocks – no matter where you are in the city.
“The food here is ridiculous. If I lived here I would be four times the size. I come to New York just to eat. It’s amazing. My dad’s actually from New Jersey. So I’ve been coming to this part of the world all my life really,” said Rosenberg.
