U2, Bob Dylan, Giorgio Moroder and More Rock Super Bowl XLVIII Commercials
While millions around the world tuned in to watch the Denver Broncos face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, they were also barraged with a cavalcade of high profile commercials, many featuring marquee stars from the music world. U2, Giorgio Moroder, Bob Dylan—who was featured in two separate spots from different advertisers—and more were among the musicians showcased in this year’s line-up of increasingly pricey spots.
U2 for (RED) and Bank of America
The Irish superstars decided the best way to unleash a new song was to turn it into a charitable moment during the most-watched TV event in the world. Along with offering the new tune for free on iTunes for 24 hours, Bank of America will donate $1 to global AIDS and charity (RED) for every download.
Bob Dylan for Chobani and Chrysler
While the legendary singer/songwriter lent his 1966 song, “I Want You,” to the humorous Chobani yogurt ad, he appears front and center throughout the Chrysler spot. The clip combines archival Dylan footage with shots of the man himself talking about the virtues of Detroit’s automotive ingenuity as he hangs out in a music store and shoots pool.
