Toni Braxton Hits Bottom, Bounces Right Back with New Album & Book
By Cameron Steagall
Since Toni Braxton was discovered and topped the charts in 1993 with her self-titled album she has been an icon for R&B and the ‘90s. Everyone knows her songs, “You’re Makin’ Me High,” “Unbreak My Heart,” and “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” Despite her successful career and collection of six GRAMMYs, Braxton filed for bankruptcy two separate times but is now back on track with a new album and book.
Braxton is finally teaming up with Babyface for a duet album titled Love, Marriage and Divorce. Even though they have known each other for some time this is their first collaboration and it is completely inspired by their divorces.
“Babyface and I have an album coming up, February 4, it’s called Love, Marriage and Divorce. It’s about relationships and the irony of that is that I was going to retire and I was not going to do music anymore. I was in like a weird space in my life and he said ‘it’s not time, it should never be time, this is what you do, you’re an artist,’” said Braxton.
“Hurt You” was the first single released from the new album and managed to top out on the Billboard Adult R&B at Number 1.
