Lead singer for Neon Trees, Tyler Glenn, co-founded the band in 2005 and has been on the rise ever since. He recently came in to the studio to talk about his new “sex song” and his band’s obstacles with Fresh 102.7’s Dylan.
Dylan started off with questions about the hit single, “Everybody Talks” and the intro to the song…the throat clearing, and how multiple radio stations cut in after it.
“So they took it out?, that’s the song, that totally bothers me then,” said Glenn, “I like at shows when the audience does that together, it’s the loudest throat clear.”
The next song Neon Trees are set to release is called “Sleeping With A Friend” and comes straight from Glenn’s personal life.
“Yea, I think that’s the sex song I knew how to write. It was on my mind, it was a true story, I don’t know how to hook up with leather and chains like Rihanna sings about…never held a whip, maybe I should,” said Glenn.
The band’s bass player has also recently seen some heart problems and underwent surgery for a leaky valve shortly before their performance on Jimmy Fallon.
“Anyone that sees him, literally three weeks ago he had open heart surgery so let’s hope he doesn’t drop,” said Glenn.
Bass Player, Branden Campbell, had a mechanical valve replacement but that was just one of the obstacles that the Neon Trees have faced in the past year.
“Our band is superhuman, except me, well no, I fell in Holland and broke all my teeth…but they’re back. Our drummer drummed until she was eight months pregnant and now [Branden’s] back after open heart surgery,” said Glenn.
