Adele’s ’21’ Sells 3 Million Digital Copies, Breaks All the Records
As Adele‘s massive sophomore album 21 nears its three-year anniversary of unmitigated success and sales, it has broken yet another record. It has become the first album to ever sell three million digital copies.
Rolling Stone reports that Nielson SoundScan confirmed the news, and pointed out that it didn’t seem to be much of a surprise for those who were following the sale of 21 throughout 2013. 21 was the—ahem—21st top selling album of 2013, after reigning #1 in 2012 and 2011.
Of course “three million digital copies” is only a small percentage of how many copies 21 has actually sold, which is now somewhere well over 10 million, having been certified Diamond status in the U.S. in just 92 weeks, becoming only the—AHEM—21st record to sell over 10 million copies, as Rolling Stone reported.
