Katy Perry Covers Marie Claire
Katy Perry was riding high after the release of her 2010 album Teenage Dream. The album featured five number one singles — a feat previously achieved by only Michael Jackson’s Bad — and her California Dreams Tour earned nearly $60 million. But amid her success, Perry was reeling; her marriage to Russell Brand came to an end via text message in 2011, leaving her in an abysmal state.
The ups and downs of Perry’s past are now in the rearview. Her latest album, Prism — released in mid-October — has already yielded her one chart topping single with “Roar” and she is about to embark on another massive world tour at the start of the new year. But, most importantly, Perry has made several important changes that have positively impacted her life.
Perry will be featured on the January cover of Marie Claire, offering some insight into the darkest part of her life following her divorce.
“There were two weeks of my life after I found out the truth of my marriage where I was like, ‘OK. All right. I can’t feel this. This is too intense right now,” comments Perry on her mental state after the split with Brand. The marriage had lasted a mere 14 months, fitting the profile of a typical celebrity union. “I was, like, just eating Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and drinking, and that’s it.”
Perry didn’t leave her marriage to Brand empty-handed, possessing something far better than money or possessions. Perry now practices transcendental meditation, which she says is “the best thing I got out of my previous relationship, because it was introduced to me via my ex-husband.”
The January cover story in Marie Claire also looks at Perry’s relationship with her parents. the on-again, off-again relationship with John Mayer and more.
