Alicia Keys Unlocks Her Music Vault On New Interactive Fan Site
Keys told fans yesterday (Dec. 5) that she giving them access to her “big steel fortress at my studio that holds my secret treasure-trove where everything unreleased resides.” After signing up for an account, fans can peruse through years of Keys’ music, live shows, videos, blog posts, photos and much more.
In a note accompanying the site, Keys writes that the vault contains “many unheard tunes written that have been locked away and protected. Songs, Expressions, Anthems, Poems, Melodies and Lyrics that sparked the legions of ideas that will have a place in my heart forever!”
The AK Vault allows fans to browse through material either by album era or by clicking on an animated icon that whisks you away to a collection of rare photos, videos and unreleased material. Though some material on the site remains locked at this point, including 2012’s Girl On Fire album, there’s plenty to discover and satisfy the biggest fan.
Unreleased songs featured on the site include a cover of PM Dawn’s 1992 hit “Die Without You” and a somber never-before-heard balled titled “Golden Child,”which had been included in her 2004 lyric/poetry book Tears For Water.
Keys writes in the song’s caption, “I wrote this song to pull myself up out of a slump I was in. Feelings of not going anywhere, Fears of not being able to make it.”
Other hidden gems featured on the site include vintage videos of a 16-year-old Keys performing her future Songs In A Minor hit “Butterflyz” and a clip of her singing “This One’s For The Children” in a local talent show at age nine.
For the musically inclined, Keys will also release downloads of unreleased material and offer them up for users to remix and submit on the site.
