Welcome to Radio Feedback, Radio.com’s weekly feature where we ask artists to wax nostalgic on the first time they heard themselves on the radio.
Gavin DeGraw released his debut album Chariot in 2003, but it wasn’t until two years later that he first heard one of his songs on the radio.
His third single off the album was “Follow Through,” and while driving around Washington, D.C. he heard the song. In an interview with Radio.com, he explained why hearing this song came full circle.
“I was in the car with my rep at the time, and there was an old song playing on the radio,” he explained, as he sang “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds. “It was from The Breakfast Club, and I was thinking, ‘Man, I would love to cover this song!'”
The song that followed on the station was also a very familiar one.
“The next song that came on the radio was ‘Follow Through’ and I was like, ‘Oh, no way! I can’t believe it!'”
