Bergdorf Goodman known for its lavish and whimsical window displays had its first ever “Holidays On Ice” windows reveal Tuesday night with a one of kind spectacular that featured dancers from the Brooklyn based, STREB Extreme Action Company, wearing form fitting red unitards embellished with glow-in-the-dark holiday lights, propelling down the legendary 5th Avenue façade, performing aerial acrobatics and sprinkling holiday dust on the adoring crowd.

The performers eventually arrived on the sidewalk, and along with their holiday helpers, pulled back the drapes to reveal the much anticipated windows created by long time window dresser David Hoey. Each window depicts a different non-Christmas holiday done up in a merry way, including April Fool’s Day, Valentine’s Day and July 4th – America’s summer holiday transformed into a winter wonderland complete with an eagle ice sculpture soaring over appropriately designer-dressed mannequins: one holding an American Flag, one with a drum — all surrounded by ice crystals and other winter holiday trimmings. The centerpiece is a female form adorned in a festive patent leather red coat by Thom Brown. Magical!

Afterwards, Bergdorf’s invited the crowd inside to continue the revelry with bites and beverages (and even a few bargains!) on every floor. Plus, there were meet and greets with designers and authors of beautiful coffee table books, including Betty Halbreich, longtime personal shopper who has been with the store for 37 years and recently celebrated her 86th birthday. Ms. Halbreich, who is considered one of the most famous people at Bergdorf’s, welcomed guests and signed copies of her book, Secrets of a Fashion Therapist.

In the spirit of giving, 10% of all proceeds from fashion and book purchases benefitted New Yorkers for Children, a non-profit dedicated to making a difference in the lives underserved children. Now, that’s holiday shopping with a purpose!
