How Thom Yorke Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb with Atoms For Peace
It would be fair to characterize Radiohead, and frontman Thom Yorke in particular, as enigmatic. World-weary and slightly dark might also come to mind. But as he, and longtime producer/collaborator Nigel Godrich, dug into the promotional cycle for the debut Atoms For Peace album Amok this past February, we noticed a change. Frankly, a massive change as anyone who saw the 1998 Radiohead doc Meeting People Is Easy could attest. The guys seemed to be…having fun?
In the video above, Radio.com documented some of their unexpected and revealing moments from the various appearances they made in support of this project in 2013. From Yorke telling Rolling Stone he’s “going to f***ing knock the teeth out” of anyone who would call Atoms For Peace a supergroup, to giving young girls advice about boys via Rookie Mag’s “Ask A Grown Man” feature, to the ongoing beef they have with streaming music services, their every interview, Tweet and Tumblr post have been more and more revealing as the year has gone on.
