Deb Gordon’s guest was Michele Przypyszny, Executive Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) New York City Chapter, which is the organization’s largest chapter dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
Ms. Przypyszny provided information about the different types of blood cancers, including lymphoma, myeloma and leukemia, which is the number one disease killer of children. Also discussed were other data including the fact that someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer every four minutes, and every 10 minutes, someone dies.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is in the process of recruiting for Team in Training, now in its 25th year of coaching and training individuals to compete in half marathons, marathons, and triathlons to realize personal goals, get in shape, and also raise money to fund innovative research for leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. This research has contributed to the many significant strides and new therapies for blood cancer patients.
The next Team in Training event will take place early next year in Bermuda, followed by the NYC Half Marathon in New York, and a New Jersey Full and Half Marathon in Long Branch.
