New ‘American Idol’ Judges: Jennifer Lopez & Harry Connick, Jr. Confirmed
American Idol has found their new judges for season 13, and one isn’t actually that new at all.
Using the hashtag #IDOL2014TheRemix, Lopez took to Twitter to announce her not-so-surprising return to the show, which she appeared on for two seasons before taking last season off to pursue other ventures.
Connick, Jr., on the other hand, released an official statement saying, “I have always been a huge fan of American Idol and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show and I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to American Idol, and to help emerging performers find their way.”
Connick also set himself up to be the funny judge, tweeting that he was looking for a gavel to bring to set in the fall. Maybe he forgot that the previously feuding judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj will not be back?

The network also announced that Randy Jackson, who retired from his judging post after last season, would remain with Idol as an in-house mentor.
“Surprise, surprise! I am so happy to be back as part of this amazing show that started it all,” Jackson said in a statement. “Season 1-3 is the place to be. The original talent show is back with a vengeance and ready to discover the best talent in America.”
Last season of Idol, which featured Jackson, Urban, Carey and Minaj as judges, earned its lowest ratings of any season with the two-hour finale pulling in 13.61 million viewers — 8 million less than the 21.5 million who watched the previous season’s finale.
