I seriously wouldn’t have noticed the similarities between Sara Bareilles’ new song “Brave” and Katy Perry’s new single ROAR unless I saw all the controversy surrounding and blaming Katy for “copying” Sara. I play both songs multiple times a day and I didn’t notice it at all. Whatever.

Hey, everybody hears different things right? Sure, it sounds a little bit the same when you think about it but really, not THAT similar. Fans went so far as to post “mashups” of the songs being played at the same time online.

Although Katy is taking the heat for copying Sara; Dr. Luke, Katy’s producer, says that “Roar” was written and recorded WELL before Sara released “Brave” on April 13, 2013. Katy’s “Roar” came out this month (August 2013).

Still, Katy Tweets love to Sara with a link to her “Brave” video…

…and Sara had this to say about the whole thing in a recent chat with ABC News:

“If I’m not mad I don’t know why anybody else is upset. I’m like, ‘Relax, let’s just celebrate that we can be out there and encouraging people to, like, feel strong and empowered.'”

What are YOUR thoughts on the whole thing? Are you a fan of both songs? Do you prefer one over the other? Sound off in the comments section below!
