Following his 2012 album spent revisiting pop and jazz standards, Paul McCartney is embracing the “out with the old, in with the new” philosophy. So much so that he named the first single from his forthcoming album, “New.” Listen to the Mark Ronson-produced song below (it’s also set for release on iTunes).
Touches of brass and Ronson’s modern production brighten up McCartney’s signature melody-driven sound on “New.” The jangly pop gem also puts an extra emphasis on the 71-year-old legend’s vocals, featuring a nice bit of harmonizing and an a cappella ending.
By the looks of a press release that utilizes the word “new” no less than 10 times, McCartney’s upcoming release is also dubbed New. His first album of original material since 2007’s Memory Almost Full, New will be released October 15 by Hear Music/Concord/MPL.
