Watch Katy Perry’s Emoji Lyric Video For ‘Roar’
Though the internet at large may have jumped the gun by leaking Katy Perry‘s new single “Roar” over the weekend, today (August 12) we still get the promised premiere. And it’s a lyric video. And it’s done with emojis. Maybe she got inspiration from Aziz Ansari when he did an all emoji version of “Ni**as In Paris.” Either way it’s entirely fitting and you can watch the text conversation play out in the video above.
Katy stopped by Fresh 102.7 today and talked to Jim & Kim about the lyric video for ‘Roar’.
“Before the official video comes out,” Katy explained, “you usually do a lyric video. And a lot of times those aren’t a special as the regular videos and mind you the video that’s coming for ‘Roar’ is gonna be so fantastic, I’m very excited about it. But the one that I just put out today is a lyric video so you can learn the lyrics. And it’s very cute… It has emojis in it – because we use those!”
So, who does Katy Perry text all the time?
Katy admits, “all those people that are in the lyric video… we have a group called ‘Mom’s Home,’ it’s some strange thing you can do on this application called What’s App – you can make your own little groups and you could just keep talking, all of you, at the same time. I actually used my real friends names – I think they’re all waking up going ‘what are all these replies on Twitter about?!”
The stadium-sized power anthem — rumored to be produced by her long-time production team Dr. Luke and Max Martin — is the first single off of Katy Perry’s forthcoming and “darker” album Prism.
Katy Perry’s new single leaked on Saturday (August 10), and as a result her label, Capitol Records, gave the okay to all radio stations to start playing it.
The singer has been leaking teasers for the track all week long, starting with a video where she lit her famous blue wig on fire. On Friday, a teaser called “Satin Cape” followed, that showed Perry wearing the jacket she dons for the single’s cover art above and a ten second preview of the track.
