It took some years, but Pearl Jam is finally doing the digital evolution.
Yesterday, a couple weeks after the band announced their 10th LP Lightning Bolt, Pearl Jam released their own mobile app in the iTunes store. The free app serves as a mobile compendium of the band’s history, a quick link to buy merch, tickets and rare songs, and more bonus features for Pearl Jam’s official fan club, the Ten Club.
“The app was created to serve all Pearl Jam fans, but it also allows our official Ten Club members to log into their membership accounts on-the go,” says Pearl Jam’s Ten Club manager Tim Bieman.
You can also purchase one-off singles, view setlists from a grip of live shows from 1991 on, and for Ten Club members, there’s several perks, including a digital lighter for live shows, and a digital candle when you’re listening to “Black” in a darkened dorm room because they don’t allow open flames.
The app further solidifies Pearl Jam’s recent obsessed with countdown clocks, like the one used on their website to announce both their upcoming album Lightning Bolt and a North American tour. Open the app, and a title screen shows a countdown clock that, as of July 26, shows 80 days until the release of Lightning Bolt on October 15.
