While the presence of video cameras had many speculating that the duo was shooting a new music video, it’s been revealed that the images were part of a photo shoot for Vogue, with the photos appearing in the magazine’s August 2013 edition. (See the cover, featuring actress Claire Danes, below.)
In the accompanying story, the band discussed their longtime relationship with designer Hedi Slimane, currently the creative direction for Saint Laurent, who recently featured Daft Punk in a music-focused ad campaign alongside Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson.
“He was one of the first people to hear the new album,” Thomas Bangalter, one half of the French duo, told the mag.
Daft Punk’s most recent album, Random Access Memories, debuted at No. 1 when it was released this past May. Selling 339,000 copies in its first week of release, the album currently holds the third best opening sales week for a new album this year behind Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience and Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. Two months after release, the record is currently holding strong at No. 9 on the Billboard 200.
