It’s a tradition as old as the Johnny Carson show: Most nights, since 1966, bands big and small play on the national stage of late night television. Sometimes good things happen, sometimes bad things happen, but the performances are always worth watching. They’re captivating mostly because they offer the raw sound of a live band and the professional video and audio recording of a late night television show.

Late Show With David Letterman
Monday, July 15 – Valerie Simpson
Tuesday, July 16 – Pokey LaFarge

Pokey LaFarge is a relative unknown making big waves in the right waters. His recent releases have been through Jack White’s Third Man Records, which is one of the few assured signs of quality these days. Tune in to see legit Americana-meets-blues.

Wednesday, July 17 – Courtyard Hounds
Thursday, July 18 –  Cold War Kids

Jimmy Kimmel Live
Monday, July 15 – Ciara

Ciara, the self-titled album from – you guessed it – Ciara, was released last week, and is the singer’s most anticipated effort since she burst onto the scene with debut album Goodies (and its hit single “1, 2 Step”). Her recent single “I’m Out,” which features Nicki Minaj in full Roman mode, is the break-up record of the summer. Whether or not she’ll bust that out on Kimmel is unknown, but it definitely won’t be the same without Minaj’s spitfire spitting.

Tuesday, July 16 – The Neighbourhood

Thursday, July 18 –  RHYE
Friday, July 19 –  ZZ Ward

The Tonight Show With Jay Leno

The “Brave” singer unleashes her latest album, The Blessed Unrest, which has the singer expanding her sound and trying to get a little weird. Trying being the key word here.
