Paramore Confesses to Their Love Affair… With New York!
The great thing about New York City is everything, at one point or another, used to be something else. The building on the corner that houses hundreds of people could have been a clinic used to fight cholera and you would never even know it.
But, by the same token, buildings can take a dive. For instance, imagine your favorite bar: disgusting, sticky tables, great live music, Christmas lights are still an acceptable form of decoration, and your clothes smell like other people’s sweat and crushed dreams for days. Then, it changes into a homeless-chic clothing store, never to be heard from again.
“We played CBGB’s,” Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore said. “Now it’s gone and I cry all the time about it, but the fact that we got to play there—we played there two times, actually—it’s huge. That’s such a big deal for us as a rock band.”
Legends like Blondie, The Police and The Ramones all tore up the stage at CBGB’s. Joining the ranks of these rock and punk pioneers is the opportunity of a lifetime for any band, including Paramore.
Since it’s closing, John Varvatos, the designer clothing store which took the place of CBGB’s, preserved the walls of the iconic punk club so shoppers knew what the venue used to be—a nice change of pace for the city.
Old or new, Jeremy Davis, bassist for Paramore said only one thing is on his mind in New York.
“There’s always pizza around every corner,” Davis said.
