Delta Rae Talks Origins, Collaboration With Lindsey Buckingham and TV
Folk rock band Delta Rae stopped by the Fresh 102.7 studios to discuss the origins of the band’s name, collaborating with Lindsey Buckingham and having their music featured on a television show with on-air personality Dylan.
Delta Rae consists of three siblings Ian Hölljes, Eric Hölljes and Brittany Hölljes, as well as Elizabeth Hopkins, Mike McKee and Grant Emerson.
They recently performed at Irving Plaza in the Union Square area of NYC. Delta Rae is no stranger to the city – the band got their start playing at the Rockwood Music Hall on the Lower East Side of NYC.
The band’s name on the other hand came from a place more close to home.
“It came from a book that are mom is currently writing. She has finished draft one. Its about a girl from the south who awakens the Greek gods and she is named, Delta Rae. My mom came up with that. Slaved over what would be the perfect name and then we just stole it right out from under her and started our own thing,” said Brittany.
Legendary lead singer of the group Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham teamed up with Producer Rob Cavallo while Delta Rae was on tour to put his own touch on the song “If I Loved You.” They worked cross country on building the song together.
“Lindsey came over to the studio and asked to hear some stuff that Rob was working on. And one of the songs that he was working on was our song. And the story goes, because we weren’t actually there unfortunately he picked up a 12 string guitar and was sitting on the back couch as Rob was playing the song and he was fiddling with it and Rob stumbled upon something where he was like thats awesome do you mind adding that to the track and he’s like yeah let’s do it,” said Eric.
Now there are currently two versions of the track.
“There’s a version thats on our album that he recorded initially and than we rerecorded the version that’s out now that Lindsey recorded,” said Eric.
Delta Rae has had the great honor of having their song featured on the television show, Parenthood.
“Parenthood had our song ‘Dancing The Graveyards’ featured at one of the most joyful moments of their season, so we we’re excited about that,” said Brittany.
