Jennifer Hudson, Bono & Stevie Wonder Join Star-Studded 80th Birthday Tribute To Quincy Jones
For over five decades, legendary music producer Quincy Jones has lent his talents to some of the most notable songs and albums in history. To recognize his 80th birthday, Jones was honored by many of those he influenced in the first of four birthday celebrations taking place this summer.
Jones was the guest of honor along with his “celestial twin” actor Sir Michael Caine for a star-studded 80th birthday bash and fundraiser at the 17th Annual Power Of Love Gala held in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand.
Performers for the night included the who’s who of Jones’ long list of musical partners including Chaka Khan, Patti Austin and James Ingram, plus special tributes from U2’s Bono, Jennifer Hudson, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santa, Stevie Wonder and more.
Celebrity guests honored both Jones and Caine’s notable careers with anecdotes from comedians Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Tucker, Arsensio Hall, Amy Poehler and Jones’ daughter Rashida Jones.
Wonder led the audience for a rendition of “Happy Birthday,” before both Jones and Caine joined him on stage to say a few words. Though the night was in honor of the two stars, who both turned 80 on March 14, their generous hearts put the spotlight on the real cause of celebration: the Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

“I’m so proud of this night being on behalf of charity,” Jones said, according to Billboard. “Living, laughing, loving and giving … that’s what life is about.”
Caine added, “Me and Q have been called legends, but the real legends are at the [Cleveland Clinic].”
To close the star-studded evening, all the performers and special guests joined the two guests of honor on stage for an uplifting performance of the Jones-produced 1985 charity single “We Are The World.”
Jones’ next 80th birthday celebration happens on July 21 at the Montreux Jazz Festival, where he will be honored with the festival’s late founder Claude Nobs. Jones will join Caine once again three days later at a celebration at London’s Royal Opera House, and end with a final bash in Tokyo on Jul. 31 & Aug. 1.
On Thursday (April 18), Jones will also be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with fellow nominees Donna Summer, Randy Newman, Albert King, and producer Lou Adler among others in a ceremony at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.
The entire ceremony will air on May 18 at 9 pm ET on HBO.
