Last week Ed Sheeran released the second video for his latest single, “Lego House.” This time around, Sheeran got his initial wish of telling the whole story using actual Legos.

“My original idea for the ‘Lego House’ video was to do a stop motion Lego video,” Sheeran revealed to MIX 105.1/Orlando. “I was told that it would cost too much, I was told that it would take to long, and I was told that Lego didn’t really want to. It was weird, apparently I don’t fit Lego’s demographic ’cause I’m a little bit older.”

But thanks to an offer by Dylan Woodley of Insomniac Animations, Sheeran’s original dream finally became a reality.

It’s not that the original video wasn’t impressive in its own right. Starring Harry Potter star Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) as a wannabe Sheeran doppelganger, it was the video that brought Sheeran’s music to a whole new worldwide audience.

“Personally, I think the Rupert Grint video opened up quite a few doors internationally,” Sheeran said. “I don’t think I’d be where I am now. You know, there are certain points in my career where things have been the right thing to do and definitely getting Rupert in the video . . . it was good.”

In his first two videos, Sheeran was noticeably absent, but when it came time for production of the first “Lego House” video, producers were trying to get Sheeran to commit to an appearance. Once again he said no, but let them know that he had always wanted to see Rupert Grint play him in a video. And thanks to the fact that fellow Harry Potter star Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) was a fan, Sheeran found a way in with Grint.

“I emailed Tom and said, ‘Could you get me Rupert’s details?’ and it all went from there.”

The producers got their wish as well, with the real Sheeran confronting Grint at the conclusion of the video.
