With vocals by Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs along with James King on saxophone, flute, trumpet and harmonica, Fitz delivers a healthy dose of Motown-flavored-retro-pop to the airwaves.
Fitz and the Tantrums have no ordinary back-story. Unlike bands that take years and a revolving door of members before working up a head of steam, Fitzpatrick explained to Buzzbands that he formed a solid line-up in just one night; a lineup that’s still together five years later. Within hours of purchasing a vintage organ, Fitzpatrick had penned his first song. That same evening, calls were made and a band was formed. After just one rehearsal, Fitzpatrick booked their first public performance. Only months later, the band would find themselves recording an EP and receiving big-time radio play. Their first album, titled Pickin’ Up The Pieces, stormed up to #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart in late 2010.
Surprisingly, much of the band’s rabid fan base grew thanks to Maroon 5. According to Fitzpatrick, Maroon 5′s Adam Levine was in New York getting some tattoo work when the artist told him, “You gotta hear this band.” Less than two weeks, later Fitz found his band opening up on Maroon 5′s college tour. Despite their small tour bus, the band was headed in the right direction.
The band’s second full-length, More Than Just A Dream, hits stores on May 7 via Elektra Records.
