On the same day that Mick Jagger told NME in no uncertain terms that classic rock icons the Rolling Stones would not be playing at this year’s Coachella festival in California, news has broken that 21st century emo-electro super-group Postal Service (featuring Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard and producer Jimmy Tamborello) will reunite, with strong hints pointing towards a Coachella performance.
According to Billboard, Sub Pop, the stalwart Seattle indie label that released the only Postal Service album to date, 2003′s Give Up, is slated to deliver a deluxe edition to celebrate the record’s 10-year anniversary. The album is famously Sub Pop’s second-best selling release of all-time (it was certified platinum late last year), behind only Nirvana‘s 1989 debut full-length, Bleach.
Rumors are also swirling that the band is planning to embark on an extensive tour, with Billboard claiming that “three sources” have confirmed that the Postal Service will be performing at this year’s Coachella music festival, set for two weekends in the month of April.
There are no indications that the pair will reunite in the studio to make another record, something Gibbard has adamantly stated more than once.

“I think people like the idea of a second Postal Service record better than they would like the second Postal Service record,” Gibbard told Spinner last October. “It’s the desire for something one can’t have, the anticipation of possessing something is more fulfilling than actually having something.”
