Often proving to be a socially conscious individual, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke recently expressed his discomfort at the thought that businessmen and politicians not only enjoy his music, but may actually embrace it. Despite having penned a song about the untimely death of David Kelly, a British weapons expert, the singer is not quick to mix music with politics.
In an interview to promote his side project Atoms For Peace, Yorke explained to Dazed & Confused magazine, “Politics is not a fun thing to write about… I can’t say I love the idea of a banker liking our music, or David Cameron. I can’t believe he’d like The King Of Limbs much. But I also equally think, who cares?”
According to At Ease, British Conservative Party leader David Cameron is a confessed Radiohead fan, going so far as to call out “Fake Plastic Trees” as his favorite song, even personally requesting the band to play it in concert.
To ensure Cameron understands the level of his displeasure with being associated with politics, Yorke added, “As long as he doesn’t use it for his election campaigns, I don’t care,” the avowed Noam Chomsky fan added. “I’d sue the living sh** out of him if he did.”
Atoms For Peace, featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Flea, Radiohead long-time producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker of R.E.M. fame and percussionist Mauro Refosco are set to release their debut album, Amok, February 26 2013. The part-time DJ recently compiled a 25-minute mix to coincide with the new interview, highlighted by unreleased music from both Radiohead and Atoms For Peace.
