Jessica Simpson is ready to laugh at her life and she wants TV watchers to do the same.
The singer-turned-designer announced that she will star in a new NBC comedy based loosely on her own life. The untitled project will be written by Nick Bakay, who has worked on movies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Zookeeper, along with the TV show Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
“I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life,” Jessica told The Hollywood Reporter. “So between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing.”
She told Jay Leno that the show will focus on pregnancy and everything that goes with it. Jessica also revealed that they plan to cast actors to play her fiancé Eric Johnson and her father, Joe.
This isn’t Jessica’s first foray into comedy. She has also appeared in movies like 2006’s Employee of the Month and The Dukes of Hazzard in 2005, along with a short stint on That 70′s Show playing Annette, Kelso’s (Ashton Kutcher) girlfriend.
It’s also not the first time she’s tried to star in a show loosely based on her own life. In 2004, she filmed a pilot for an ABC show called Jessica that was about a pop star-turned-TV news anchor, but it was not picked up to series.
From 2003-2005, she also let fans take a glimpse at her very funny life with the reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, that focused on her marriage to Nick Lachey.
As for if she’ll get married to her fiancé of two years before the show airs, Jessica, who’s expecting baby number two, says that she’ll have to make a conscious effort to not get pregnant again.
“We’ve had two different wedding dates,” she admitted. “But he keeps knocking me up.”
She seems to have come up with a full proof plan though.
“I’ll keep my legs crossed this time.”
