Only two weeks into the new year and Christina Perri is already holed away in the studio working on her next album.
When Radio.com spoke with the singer late last year, she was demoing some of her “skeletons,” the new songs that she had recorded using only a guitar or a piano.
“I’ve been listening to this one song I wrote two days ago non-stop,” she said. “I think that’s a good sign.”
The singer, who released her first album, Lovestrong, in 2011, has been writing non-stop the past year while on tour and says her new material is “more mature.”
“I’ve grown so much as musician,” she said. “I’m thinking of drum parts and basslines and things I’ve never thought of before. I feel like I’ve grown ten years in two.”
At the same time, the Twilight singer explained, “It’s me, I’m still writing them all so it’s definitely going to sound like me and be consistent with album one but I’ve had vocal chord surgery since album one, which made it so much better and stronger.”
Perri plans to bring her band down to Nashville this February to record with Charlie Peacock, who produced The Civil Wars 2011 album, Barton Hollow. She would like to release the first single this spring, but said nothing was set in stone just yet.
“I don’t want to say for sure, but I certainly know I’m more excited about this than anything in my life,” she said. “I feel ready for this. I’ve been on the circuit for two years now and I know what it’s like. I’m ready to do album number two.”
As for duets—the singer teamed up with Jason Mraz for “The Distance” last time around—Perri said it’s anyone’s guess who will be on there.
“It will be a surprise,” she said. “If it happens it will present itself, but I’m not sure yet.”
