Sheryl Crow’s Broadway musical Diner, which was previously scheduled to open on April 10, has now had its opening day pushed back to an early fall start, producers Scott Zeiger and Brian Becker of BASE Entertainment announced on Monday.
“We presented a four-week fully staged workshop of Diner in New York last November at which we received positive feedback from investors and theater owners,” said Zeiger in a statement. “We are excited about our progress and it has become very clear the direction in which we need to continue to take this new American musical.”
Diner The Musical, written by Barry Levinson with featured music and lyrics by Sheryl Crow, was inspired by the critically acclaimed 1982 film of the same name which was written and directed by Levinson and starred Ellen Barkin, Mickey Rourke, Steve Guttenberg and Kevin Bacon.
As the wait continues, Sheryl, who is best known for her pop-rock hits “Strong Enough” and “Every Day Is a Winding Road,” has been keeping herself quite busy. She recently recorded her first country album while living in Tennessee.
On her official website, Sheryl shared a message with her fans about what to expect in 2013:
“I’ve been working on a new album in Nashville, hope to be able to share more with you about it early next year,” she wrote. “I thank all my fans so much for your love and support of my music and the causes that mean so much to me. I can’t wait to share the new stuff with you in 2013.”
Back in November of 2012, Sheryl released the single “Woman in the White House” online.
The new album is scheduled to be released on Warner Music Nashville this fall and is set to play three shows in Florida this February.
