Dixie Chicks To Play Two Canadian Festivals This Summer
Are the Dixie Chicks preparing for a comeback? Let the speculation begin, because this summer, the Chicks are regrouping to perform live at two Canadian music festivals.
The first show takes place July 7 as part of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival on Prince Edward Island. The three-day festival takes place July 5-7 and also features Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town, and Michelle Wright (other performers are yet to be announced).
Then on July 11, the Chicks are the Saturday headliners at the three day Craven Country Jamboree. They’re actually replacing Lady Antebellum, who had to back out after the announcement of Hillary Scott’s pregnancy.
“We knew we had to find something extra special to replace Lady Antebellum when the band canceled their summer dates due to Hilary Scott’s pregnancy,” wrote the festival’s director of marketing, Kim Blevins, in an online statement. “And it won’t be a regular show – not only will our fans see Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, the three original members, this is a greatest hits package. The Craven date will be one of the only opportunities fans of the band will have to see them live.”
The Craven County Jamboree takes place July 11-14, and additional performers announced so far include Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Scotty McCreery, Phil Vassar, Brantley Gilbert, Sawyer Brown, Gloriana, Randy Travis, and Grand Ole Opry icon Bill Anderson.
The Dixie Chicks’ last release was the GRAMMY-winning 2006 album Taking the Long Way, and despite occasional appearances (and a tour with the Eagles), they’ve been mostly on hiatus as a trio since 2007. Emily Robison and Martie Macguire released an album under the name Court Yard Hounds in 2010, and Natalie Maines recorded a song on a new soundtrack (out Jan. 15) for a documentary about the West Memphis Three.
Natalie has also completed her first solo album. Titled Mother, it is currently set for release on May 7.
