Checking It Twice: 10 Songs You Shouldn’t Forget On Your Christmas Playlist
From your cousin to your grandma, make them all happy this Christmas with a special holiday party playlist.
Now, what do you put on it that will make everyone happy?
Here are twelve suggestions of soon-to-be classics (excluding Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” of course, since it’s obviously already on your list. Right?) to make this year’s holiday party even more festive.
So break out that ugly sweater and crank up the tunes, it’s Christmas!
Michael Bublè “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”
Yeah, there are a lot of different versions of this song you can pick (Bruce Springsteen’s being one of the best), but this year switch things up with the Canadian crooners big band version of the classic.
Colbie Caillat “Christmas in the Sand”
The weather outside will possibly be frightful, but Colbie’s ode to a surfing Santa will surely warm you up.
She & Him “Baby It’s Cold Outside”
Everyone and their mother has done a rendition of “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” but She & Him’s take on the song switches things up a bit. Zooey Deschanel, who also performed the song in Elf, isn’t the one trying to leave, but is trying to get her guy, bandmate M. Ward to stick around. Women’s lib at its finest.
CeeLo & The Muppets “All I Need Is Love”
It has the Muppets. Do you really need any other reason to play this one?
Train “Joy To The World”
Pat Monahan and the guys meld a soulful “Joy To The World” with their 2003 song, “Calling All Angels” to create a Christmas mash-up perfect for this year’s playlist.
Christina Perri “Something About December”
While writing this song, which is about being away from home during the holidays, Christina burst into tears. don’t be surprised if you’re grabbing for the Kleenex also.
Richard Marx “Christmas Spirit”
Let Richard’s peppy Christmas original take you to your happy place.
Rod Stewart “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”
Rod slows things down for his sultry take on the classic. To really get the party started, we suggest you pull out some of the “Maggie May” singer’s interpretive dance moves. Best part is, they’ll be perfect for any other climate focused Christmas songs.
Lady Antebellum “Holly Jolly Christmas”
It’s hard to compete with Burl Ives, but Lady A update “Holly Jolly” to make it a downhome country boot stomper.
Wham! “Last Christmas”
No matter what happened last Christmas, this one’s going to be different. We promise. But no matter what your romantic status is, this song is the perfect way to wind down after a little too much eggnog.
