Chris Mann didn’t actually win The Voice, but he feels like he did.

The singer, who was a member of Team Christina during season two, told CBS Local he didn’t have one ounce of resentment when his roommate Jermaine Paul won the big prize.

“I got so much further than I ever thought,” Mann said about coming in fourth. “I was one of the first people to do a classical crossover thing on a pop show. I was surprised I even made it onto the show, period.”

Mann, who released his debut, Roads, this year, along with a Christmas EP, always felt like he wasn’t cool enough to be in the music industry. But after being on the reality show, realized people respected him for not being afraid to be a little square.

“I first started the show being surrounded by like these good looking younger people who were cool and their hair was all spiky and they wore leather,” Mann said. “And I wear suits and am such a librarian compared to these people. But I realized I stuck out, not doing that.”

His lesson to those contestants who have already been sent home is simple: stay true to yourself.

“Be the best you can possibly be,” Mann said. “Because nobody else can do that.”

Find out who wins this season of The Voice on tonight’s final results show at 9 pm EST/PST.
