The volunteers of the Red Cross have done so much for all of the victims of Hurricane Sandy, so this morning we decided to salute them!

Yesterday, I had a chance (along with my partner Jim) to help out with the CBS NY Hurricane Relief Fun Telethon.

We headed over to the CBS Broadcast Center to answer phones. I have never been in the CBS Broadcast Center…it was like walking through hallowed halls! Thinking of all the news anchors that have walked through those halls – like Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite – through the years and being in the same place they film 60 Minutes was a little awe inspiring.

I got to sit in the makeup chair and feel like a TV person for an hour… radio is so much easier!! I don’t have to have my hair done and face HD ready.

The woman who did my makeup just lost everything to Hurricane Sandy… she lives in Long Beach. She literally had to borrow the clothes on her back. And she was just getting back on her feet from Hurricane Irene last year that wiped everything out.

But the best part was talking to all the people with huge hearts around the tri-state area who have lost so much themselves and gave so much to help the Hurricane Sandy victims…

I took a call from a woman who was from Louisiana and she lost contact with her brother after Hurricane Katrina. For two months they had no idea where he was and didn’t hear a word. They finally found him in a shelter in Houston! He had amnesia from a concussion. He is fine today, but she wanted to give to help out all the victims of Sandy.

So many generous people who couldn’t wait to give and many of the Red Cross volunteers were there, as well. They shared their stories of hope from Sandy:
