The Naked Cowboy Announces Support For Romney
While Barack Obama has cornered the market on support from rappers and the hip-hop community, Mitt Romney has nabbed an endorsement of one of New York’s iconic figures. The Naked Cowboy, the most recognized of all Times Square street performers, has hit the “campaign tail” for the Republican nominee.
Robert Burck, aka the Naked Cowboy, took to his Times Square post on Tuesday (October 23) with politics on his mind, and the name “Romney” inked across his tighty-whities.
“I believe in a small, decentralized, fiscally responsible federal government,” he told CBS Local. “I believe in an economy with free market principals, and I believe in the strongest national defense on earth. And those are the antithesis of all the things Obama is doing.”
Burck said he has already filed his vote in Ohio, which has 18 electoral votes and, along with Florida, Iowa, and Virginia, is a major battle ground state. Considered a bellwether state, no Republican since Abraham Lincoln has become president without carrying Ohio.
Burck has become an icon of Times Square by posing with tourists in nothing more than a cowboy hat, boots, a guitar, and white briefs. But he’s recently began to expand his brand into politics. In February, Burck announced his intention to run for the presidency on the Tea Party ticket.
“I will reduce the civilian federal workforce by 40 percent or more,” he said, in his failed bid as a Tea Party candidate. “I will make the recipients of welfare subject to random drug test. I will seek to eliminate the federal department of education.”
While the Naked Cowboy has joined recent celebrities such as Stacey Dash and Lindsay Lohan, who have come out for Romney, Obama has been racking up the rapper vote with big time support from Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg.
