Happy Birthday Katy Perry! Eight Reasons Why We Love Her
Why do we love Katy Perry? Let us count the ways.
In honor of Katy’s 28th birthday, we take a look back at eight reasons why we can’t get enough of the sugarcoated pop star.
She breaks records like it’s her job
Well, we guess it is her job. And it’s a good thing too, since she’s really great at it. Besides holding the title of Most Number One Hits, Most Consecutive Number Ones and Most Total Weeks At Number One, she just made The Guinness Book of World Records for being the first female with five number one singles from one album thanks to Teenage Dream. Go Katy!
She doesn’t mind a little controversy
On her first single she admitted she kissed a girl and she liked it. While some wrote the song off as a gimmick, Katy used the controversy to talk about bigger issues, like gay marriage.
“I believe in equality,” she told the magazine, L’Uomo Vogue. “I believe in love with no boundaries or preface. I come from a childhood where there was a lot of judgment on this subject, but I have freed myself from that.”
She lets her freak flag fly when it comes to fashion
She wore angels wings to the Grammy’s, a carousel at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards and a movie reel with a skirt of popcorn for the premiere of her movie, Part of Me.
But our favorite has to be the sweet confections she wears in her Candy Land-inspired video for “California Gurls.” From a donut bustier to a whipped cream bra, she makes it all look delicious.
She’s not afraid show her true self
Her recent movie, Katy Perry: Part of Me gave us a glimpse of the singer, letting us into her world from being on the road to falling out of love. She keeps things real, and we respect her for it.
She gets out the vote
Katy has been encouraging young people to get out the vote. At a fundraiser in Las Vegas for President Obama she even wore a dress that looked like a ballot as friendly reminder to get to the polls. Even a big star like Katy gets starstruck. Just read her Tweet about meeting the leader of the free world.
So tonight was a great night! The PRESIDENT gave grandma and I unforgettable shout outs & now I am officially 28! Best. birthday. ever.—

She hangs out with Elmo, even if parents don’t want her too
Celebrities and parodies have always been a part of Sesame Street, but when Katy appeared on the show in 2010 parents weren’t so happy about her attire. In fact, the show had to pull the singer’s appearance.
Elmo of course had her back telling CBS, “We had a great time. Katy Perry is wonderful.”
And he says they’ll definitely have another play date very soon.
She makes us want to get our nails did
She’s had the characters of the MTV cartoon Daria drawn on her nails.

Her now ex-hubby Russell Brand on there too.
But our favorite has to be her Obama nails.
