The September issue of any women’s magazine is usually the biggest issue of the year. Filled with fall fashion tips and advertisements galore, it’s the style Bible for all the fashionistas out there. This year’s Vogue is so jam-packed—weighing in at 4.5 pounds and featuring 658 record-breaking pages—it’s even causing problems for mail carriers all over the place.
The point is, earning the cover of a September issue is a pretty nice get and this year, musicians from all genres including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus and Victoria Beckham have earned themselves the coveted spot.
Here is a look at the ladies on the covers from what they’re wearing to what they’re saying.
Lady Gaga on Vogue

Channeling her inner RuPaul on the cover, Gaga teases out her blonde afro and remains statuesque in a fuchsia mermaid gown. Inside, she goes nude and continues to upset PETA with her fur hats of all different shapes and colors.
What she says about her new fragrance:
“The fragrance is called Fame. It must be black. It must be enticing. You must want to lick and touch and feel it, but the look of it must terrify you.”
On reinventing the meat dress for the Born This Way Ball:
“We were talking about putting the show together and I said, ‘OK, what if I was someone’s grandma and I was going to a concert tonight. How would I know that it was a Gaga show?’ And we all just sort of looked at each other and said, ‘The meat dress.’ ”

Katy goes goth with dark cat eyes and long dark purple streaked hair, but stays pretty in a light pink cowl neck dress on the cover.
What she says about being a role model:
“I have no regrets…I’m not going to be everything to everyone. I can’t tell a person when it’s time for them to have sex. Or if they should have a cigarette…But I try to live my life with a lot of integrity, and, hopefully, that sends a message.”
On relationships and marriage:
“I obviously have a lot to say right now…I’m a woman who likes to be courted–strongly. Never say never, I guess you’d say. I’ll let love take the lead on that.”
Gwen Stefani on Harper’s Bazaar
On the cover, she’s dressed all in pink from her sweetheart necklined dress to her oversized flower hat to her lips. Inside, she goes wild wearing a Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit, an Alexander McQueen pink feathered gown, a black Vera Wang wedding dress and form fitting little black dress courtesy of Versace.
What she says about her first red lipstick, given to her by her grandma:
“I remember sitting in my ghetto, beat-up Honda Prelude and putting on that lipstick in the rearview mirror and being like, ‘Uh-huh, I like that. That’s the s*** right there.’ I never stopped after that.”
About the secret to her six-pack abs:
“There is no secret: You just have to eat healthy, work out, and torture yourself!”
Miley Cyrus on Marie Claire

Bejeweled on the cover, her ice blue top seems to bring out her eyes. Inside though, she models the latest from Roberto Cavalli, Versace and a bodysuit by Kanye West. And of course, she shows off her diamond engagement ring from her fiance, Liam Hemsworth.
What she says about her recent engagement:
“Life is too short not to be with the person you want to be with. I don’t really care about the wedding or the piece of paper as much as I do the promise we’ve made to each other.”
About her dog, Ziggy:
“She doesn’t listen to me. She’s in love with Liam. She loves me when he’s gone, but she totally ate my diamonds on purpose. She was pooping them out all morning!”
Victoria Beckham on Glamour

The Spice Girl appears as a celebrity guest editor, the first ever for the mag, and rocks her own designs including a red and black-striped dress and a crocheted tangerine top. On the cover though she stays minimalist decked out in soapsuds and a tiara.
What she says about why she is never seen smiling…
“Do you know, I don’t know?! I actually used to smile a lot in pictures. I think I only stopped smiling when I got into fashion. [Laughs.] Fashion stole my smile! I’ve created this person. And I’m not saying that’s not me, but I wouldn’t say that’s the whole me…. It’s an armor that goes up.”
On reading 50 Shades of Grey…
“I’m halfway through the second one. I even bought my mum the book! But every time she tries to engage in conversation about it, I kind of dodge the subject. I don’t really want to talk to my mother about S&M.”
Jennifer Lopez on InStyle

With very little makeup and side swept hair, J.Lo shines in a red top from Givenchy on the cover. Inside she takes over the cheap seats to show off her curves in a Wolford bodysuit and a Salvatore Ferragamo skirt. But it’s her feet that really sparkle in a pair of diamond encrusted sandals.
What she says about never giving up on love:
“The hard part is that you never stop believing in love. But that’s also the best part. You never stop believing, and you never, ever give up.”
About being a superstar mom:
“I feel the pressures of wanting to be a great parent and of wanting to do right by my children. Being a mom, or a dad, is the most important job there is. It doesn’t matter who you are. You have to embrace it for everything that it is.”
